Finding the right West Chester, PA apartments to rent can be a challenge, but moving all your stuff into your new place can sometimes be more difficult. This is particularly true if you own many things, live in a multiple-bedroom home, and have a lot of fragile items. Fortunately, you can make the process easier by using some tried-and-tested moving hacks, such as the following:

  1. Use sheets and towels as packing materials

You’re probably planning to pack your sheets and towels in a box along with your other stuff. There’s nothing wrong with this, but remember that you can put them to good use by using them as packing materials. For instance, you can wrap a towel around your flat-screen TV before packing it in a box to keep it from breaking.

  1. Snag some free (or almost free) boxes

One of the most expensive parts of moving is buying boxes, which you’ll end up throwing away anyway once you’re done with your move. Fortunately, you can slash this cost by getting free boxes from your local grocery stores or clothes shop or from the ‘Free’ section of Craigslist. If you can’t get boxes from these sources, you can opt to rent reusable plastic moving boxes, which are cheaper than buying cardboard boxes by about 50 percent.

  1. Color-code your boxes

Before you move in, go to your new place and color-code the rooms. For instance, you can put a green sticker in your bedroom, a red sticker in the bathroom, and a yellow sticker in the living room. Then, when you start packing your things, pack them by room and place the appropriate sticker on the boxes. This way, movers will know which room they should be placed, and you won’t have to drag heavy boxes from one room to another.

  1. Use garbage bags to pack hanging clothes

You don’t need to remove your clothes from their hangers and pack them in boxes, only to hang them again when you get to your new place. Just grab them by their hangers, zip-tie the hangers together, and place the entire bunch in a garbage bag to protect them from dust and dirt.

  1. Use saran wrap to keep your toiletries intact

Your bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash can leak while they’re in transit, leaving you with a huge, sticky mess and make moving even more difficult. To prevent this from happening, simply use saran wrap to cover the openings of the bottles before putting their tops back on.

  1. Separate your essentials from the rest of your stuff

You can’t expect to unpack everything right away. You can’t even expect the moving van to arrive on time, particularly if you’re moving from one state to another! So, instead of finding yourself stranded with nothing to use, you need to separate essential items and carry them with you in your car. For example, you can get an overnight bag and fill it with work clothes and sleeping clothes as well as your laptop, phone and laptop chargers, and toiletries. You can also pack some cookware, tableware, trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, and other essentials in a large plastic bin.

Moving to new apartments in West Chester, PA (or anywhere else, for that matter) isn’t a piece of cake. Fortunately, you can enjoy a smooth, successful move and experience less stress by using the tried-and-tested hacks listed above.
